Louis Gilbert Manitowabi, affectionately known as Luigi, a resident of Wikwemikong, died peacefully at the Manitoulin Health Centre in Little Current on Monday, May 9, 2016 at the age of 67. Louis was born to Henriette and Samuel Manitowabi in Manitowaning on May 28, 1948. Beloved husband of Agnes Manitowabi (nee Pitawanakwat) and loving father to Harley ba (predeceased 1985), Mary ba (predeceased 1971), Lenore, Joshua (fiance Marissa) and Robin. Proud grandfather of granddaughter Wassnodeh and grandsons, Noah, Kobe (Isaiah), Michael (Meeshen-Meshach), and Niigaan (Shadrach). Loving brother of Tina (Theodore) Mandamin, Julian Manitowabi, Connie (Malcolm) Pitawanakwat, Caroline Mandamin. Predeceased by siblings Mary, Theodore, Rene, Nancy, Alphonse, Dominic, Elizabeth, Marina, Francis, Wilfred, and Gertrude. Special in-laws Rosemary, Herman (predeceased) Joyce, Terrance Pitawanakwat, Eugene Dokum and Raymond, Grace and Donny. He will be lovingly remembered by many godchildren, nieces, nephews, and his brothers and sisters in Christ. Louis will be fondly remembered as a man of prayer. He had a strong faith in God and had so much love and prayer for his family and his community. He was such a hardworking man and despite his physical ailments, he persevered with strength and determination. He was one of the founding members of the Wikwemikong Annual Fall Fair, 4-H Club and the Rodeo. He took pride in his family’s farm and his logging company, finding his solitude at the farm and forest. Family and friends gathered at St. Anthony Church in Kaboni at 3 pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. Funeral Service was at 1 pm on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Holy Cross Mission with Father Jerry McDougall officiating. Burial was at the Wikwemikong Lower Cemetery.
