MINDEMOYA—Earlier this week the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary donated another $50,000 to the Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) towards the hospital’s Telemetry Fundraising Campaign.
Judy MacKenzie, chair of the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary told the Recorder. “We are presenting a donation of $50,000 to the MHC telemetry fundraising campaign. Last year we gave the hospital $50,000 and made a pledge to provide this second installment of $50,000 to the (Mindemoya Hospital) Telemetry Campaign.”
Derek Graham, chief executive officer of the MHC, told the Recorder, “this again represents the great level of support we receive from the hospital auxiliaries and other groups on the Island toward our hospitals.”
Mr. Graham explained the telemetry equipment, “is used for cardiac patient monitoring. It is very important equipment. It is a mobile system and patients wear a device, which provides patients cardiac information back to the (nurses) monitoring station in the hospital.”
“The purchase of new telemetry equipment is something we (MHC) had to move on quickly, as our previous equipment had been coming to the end of its life,” continued Mr. Graham. The MHC, “had the chance to be part of a group buying with other hospitals. This allowed dollars donated by the hospital auxiliary and Manitoulin Transport for instance to let us get out of the gate, and purchase the equipment.”
“Yes, we support the Mindemoya hospital as much as we can, and receive tremendous support from the Island community,” said Ms. Mackenzie.
“The funds we raise and then provide to the MHC and local hospital are from funds raised from all our raffles and teas we hold during the year,”said Ms. MacKenzie. She pointed out, “a lot of people remember us (when they or a family member passes away). Everyone realizes the good care our two hospitals on the Island provide and that we need to help keep them updated in terms of hospital equipment.”
