Mike Meeker, born February 23, 1958, passed away June 5, 2024.  First and foremost Mike loved his family. He leaves behind his wife Sharon Meeker (Vaughn); sons Zac (Terri) and Adam (Deborah); grandchildren Nathaniel, Ty, Elizabeth, Victoria, Norah and Hannah along with nieces and nephews; Seth, Shane, Hannah, Isaac, Riley, Emmett and Tess.  Mike was born in Kingston, Ontario, the oldest to Joan and Thomas (predeceased); siblings Shari, Danny (Brenda) and Tracy (Mark). Mike had a prolific hockey career which traversed tier two junior (Nepean Raiders), NCAA (Wisconsin Badgers), OHL (Peterborough Petes), AHL (Binghamton Dusters), NHL (Pittsburgh Penguins) and professional hockey in Sweden (Karlskrona).  Even during his athletic endeavours, Mike pursued adventure and innovation related to his interest in nature and biology. This led him to Manitoulin Island in 1984 with his wife Sharon to start an aquaculture business. Mike made many contributions to the community with his experience and leadership abilities. He coached a variety of baseball and hockey teams and provided mentorship to countless local athletes. In addition to his own industrious business, he volunteered on the local fire department and was a key contributor to many professional organizations and business developments across Manitoulin. He was instrumental in the development of the aquaculture industry in Northern Ontario. Mike was a principled individual who lived to support and protect country, community and family. It is for this reason that he touched so many lives and why he will be so dearly missed.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Simpson Funeral Home in Gore Bay on June 16, 2024 at 1 pm.
