MHC Auxiliary News – Mar 5-14

Our Auxiliary Valentine Day casserole dinner was well attended. Thank you to all who contributed your favorite casserole. There was a wonderful selection of dishes to choose from. The cake and ice cream desserts topped off our Valentine celebration. Doug Hore and Maurice Labelle got everyone’s toe a tapping as usual. Thank you Sue Lafreniere and your committee for organizing this event again. There was a good turnout of Auxiliary members to help with decorations, hall set-up and to assist in the kitchen.

We took advantage of this opportunity to make another donation to the Manitoulin Health Centre. Derek Graham CEO was presented with a cheque in the amount of $80,00 from President Dianne Musgrove, Barb Lawrence our Memorial Fund chairperson, and Treasurer Marilee Hore. These funds will go towards the ongoing hospital bed replacement program. All donations to the Manitoulin Health Centre Auxiliary that you make in memory of family members and friends are directed to our Memorial Fund and are very much appreciated. To recognize your donations, we have a commemorative logbook displayed in an especially designed display case near the Tuck Shop at the hospital entrance.

A presentation of $11,000 was also made in December for the purchase of two Holters and two automated blood pressure monitors for use in the diagnostic imaging department. These funds were from the support we received to our summer cash raffle and to our HELLP break open ticket fundraising at the hospital tuck shop.

We are able to make these donations due to your support. We wish to extend a special thank you for the many years of ongoing generosity you have extended to our Auxiliary’s fundraising efforts.

This spring’s book sales have begun in the hospital cafeteria. This past weekend was open both Friday night from 7 to 9 pm and on Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. This sale and a further one scheduled for March 28 and March 29 will be a trial to see if Friday evening is more convenient for some. Watch the Expositor for upcoming dates.

The annual Hospital Auxiliary Association of Ontario Northeast District conference will be held in Mattawa April 4 to 6. This year’s event is being hosted in Mattawa and organized with the assistance of Wawa and Killarney. This is an opportunity each spring to share ideas on special events and fundraising. A representative from the HAAO executive is usually in attendance and makes a presentation on provincial activities.

March 6 is our next regular meeting at 7 pm in the hospital boardroom. Our annual general meeting (AGM) with election of officers will be held April 3.

New members are always welcome to help in our work to raise funds to enable us to provide for the comfort of the hospital patients, to support the needs of the hospital staff where possible and to assist the board in their funding efforts. Look for our membership application flyers in the hospital and Family Health Team waiting areas.
