MHC Auxiliary News

The regular meeting on October 10 focused on representative reports, planning for coming events and vacant positions, both executive and representative.

Reports of continuing fundraisers were positive. Coin boxes continue to be a super source of revenue. Thanks to the businesses that display the boxes for easy access. More boxes are being ordered. If your business\public venue would like a coin box, call Dave at 705-368-1709.

The book sales at the Farmers’ Market from May till Thanksgiving were very successful. The sales were the best ever! Thanks for your support in donating and buying. There will probably be a book sale in the hospital cafeteria in late November or early December. The In Memoriam Fund is an important source of income for the Auxiliary, especially for equipment purchases. The tuck cart\showcase keeps on keeping on! There was discussion about lack of interest and slower sales. The Harvest Sale was held on September 30 at the Farmers’ Market. Although there were not as many donations as usual, sales were good.

Coming events include the cookie walk, the Regional Spring Conference and ornament sales for the Memory Tree. Details for the cookie walk will be in the next newsletter. The Regional Conference is on May 4, 5, and 6 at the Complex in Little Current. It is a joint effort of the Auxiliaries in Little Current and Mindemoya. Planning meetings are underway and some speakers have been confirmed. A large number of auxiliary representatives from Northeastern Ontario will be attending. Ornament sales will begin at Ladies Night’ on November 23 and at the Tuck Cart in early December. Stained glass and wooden ornaments will be sold.

There are two vacancies. One is for the position of secretary. Congratulations to Sue Lafreniere on her promotion at the TD Canada Trust. Her new position will involve concentrated training and extra hours so she regretfully announced her resignation from the executive. Sue has done an excellent job and has been an asset to the Auxiliary. For years, she has been the backbone of the organization of the casserole dinner and the Harvest Sale. Sue, we’ll miss you!

A new secretary has to be appointed by the executive or an election has to be held. Anyone interested? Call Elaine at 705-368-3038. We also need a goodwill representative. The position involves sending cards to members who are ailing, grieving, need a pick me up or special congratulations. About three cards a month are sent. Perhaps an associate plus member or new member would like to take it on. Call Elaine at 705-368-3038.

Looking ahead, the Christmas supper is on December 12 and the next regular meeting is on November 14 at 7 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Remember that we succeed because you support us! Many thanks!
