Hours of sale have been changed at Admitting for purchases from the showcase. Items can be purchased from Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 3 pm. As well, you can buy at the Tuck Cart Room Monday to Friday from 11 am till 1 pm.

A cheque for $1,000 was received from the Van Zant Trust Fund. This is an annual gift for the auxiliary, given in memory of Garry Van Zant an RCMP officer who was found deceased in British Columbia in 1976.

The installation of officers was completed. Dawn Orr (vice-president) and Marilee Hore (treasurer) were installed.

It was a time to plan! The MHC Auxiliary joined the NEMI Farmers’ Market. Book Sales begin on Saturday, May 20 from 9 am till noon. A bake sale will be held the same day. To donate cookies, cakes, squares etc. Call Sue at 368-2336. Come and support your auxiliary!

It was a time to celebrate a successful event and Volunteer Week.

The spaghetti supper held in Manitowaning on April 29 was a success. The hall was decorated in a Canada 150 theme planned by Carole Labelle. Special guests included Carol Hughes MP who donated small flags and a large flag, singer Debbie Robinson, actor Peter Baumgarten and singer Robbie Shawana. Special thanks to Joyce White who spearheaded ticket sales with support from Ila Lloyd and Sandra Pope. Attendance was great, the food was scrumptious and the entertainment pleasing to all. The chatter of the folks attending was an indication of the good time they were having. Elaine Moore was the chief chef and prepared two sauces and all that spaghetti! Other helpers included two students working on their volunteer hours and members Barbara Lawrence, Rena Moore, Wallace Moore, Dawn Orr and Laila Kiviaho. Thank you to those who came to the dinner and to those who ordered take-outs.  Every one of you contributed to the success of the dinner. We also had a bonus as six new members were signed up.

Raffle tickets went on sale at the supper. The prizes are 1st, $1,000, 2nd $500 and 3rd, 4th, and 5th are $100. Tickets are $5 each. Buy a book for $20!

Then it was time to celebrate Volunteer Week! Elaine Moore presented a cheque to CEO Derek Graham for $2,520 for the Falls Prevention Panels. You will soon notice the panels attached to the wall above the patients’ beds. There is important information there for nursing staff and visitors that shows a patient’s need for assistance for mobility and movement. This is an example of your auxiliary at work.

To show appreciation for auxiliary volunteers, a beautiful cake was served. A gift of a mug containing a really nice pin and three MHC pens was given to each active volunteer. We all enjoyed our treats. Thank you! It’s nice to be recognized and encouraged in our mandate.

The next regular meeting is on Tuesday, September 12. Beginning in September our meetings will be on the second Tuesday of the month.

Our best wishes for a wonderful, happy, healthy summer. We look forward to and appreciate your support.
