Government regulations should end at the Wikwemikong border
To the Expositor:
Wikwemikong has been under the power of provincial and federal governments, but these two levels of government have no jurisdiction in this community or reserve itself and have no power to implement their policies, laws or regulations into this reserve because it is an Unceded Reserve. Government policies, laws and regulations end at the Manitowaning boundary line. I just wanted to make that clear because these government have been violating our rights for too long now and it’s time to take that power back. We only have an agreement with the government, but that can be broken and that’s what they have been doing anyway with all the broken promises. They do not seem to understand what health care really is because dental is about health also, but they say it’s not.
How stupid can you be because they will not allow the medical van to be used for dental appointments?
But this is about health for me and I cannot use this van for my dental appointments and my dentist is in Little Current. I want to keep my dentist because these people give good quality care. I live on a fixed income and this medical van would be good to use for dental appointments because I am not getting any help from anybody. They all want money first before they can take me anywhere and this is what makes this government so stupid. They just implement policies without even knowing anything, and I do very well at budgeting my money but sometimes just cannot help it, the money is not there when I really need it. So taking back the power so the chief and council would have the power to implement their own policies, laws and regulations that will fit the needs of the community and not the government. The government has to be informed that they have no jurisdiction here.
