ESPANOLA–A McKerrow, ON man died yesterday afternoon when the ultralight aircraft he was piloting crashed onto Raven Lake southwest of Espanola. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of the crash at approximatley 4:20 PM. Police and EMS responded to the scene by snowmobile to find the crash site. The lone male pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation suggests that the ultrlight went into a nose dive and crashed onto the ice.
Daniel MORRISSETTE (57 yrs) of McKerrow, ON was killed in the crash. The Transportation Safety Board has been notified and will be investigating the the incident to determine the cause of the crash.
Members of the Espanola OPP and Transportation Safety Board returned to the scene of yesterday’s fatal ultralight crash on Raven Lake. Investigation has revealed that the aircraft suffered a loss of engine power, causing wing stall. This resulted in the Birdman Chinook ultralight going into an uncontrollable nose dive before crashing on the ice of Raven Lake.
