The May meeting was opened by our new president Dave Sylvester. Yes, Dave, our first male president. Congratulations on behalf of all the members and we know that we’ll go forward with you as leader. With a male as president, perhaps this will encourage more men to join the Manitoulin Health Centre Auxiliary. For anyone wanting to join, call Leona (705-368-1709) or drop in at the Tuck Cart HELPP Lottery between 11 am and 1 pm, Monday to Friday. The annual fee is $2.
We looked back at the spring conference, discussed current activities and considered future fundraisers.
Reports were given by those attending the spring conference in Mattawa. Guest speakers included Mariette Gaudet (reflexology), Ben Holst (mental health) and Greg Humbert (inner self-motivational speaker). Elen McMillan, the president of the provincial Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario (HAAO), addressed members in the afternoon. All who attended found the conference stimulating and enjoyed the friendship of members from many parts of the north.
Volunteer Week has come and gone but members of the Auxiliary volunteer in some capacity every day. Evidence of the work of the Auxiliary can be seen in Little Current and at the Manitoulin Health Centre in the coin boxes in businesses, book sales, tuck cart, showcase, HELPP Lottery, Fill’er up Jug, Care Bags and headsets for patients and the In Memoriam Fund. These ongoing activities enable the Auxiliary to fulfill its mandate to enhance patient services and support the Manitoulin Health Centre in any way we can, including equipment purchases. It’s wonderful to have members who give of themselves to serve others.
Looking ahead, the Vesey’s Bulbs should be in soon, ready for planting.
Book sales will resume at the Farmers’ Market May 17 to October 11 from 9 am till noon.
There will be a “Cold Cash” raffle draw in December, just in time for last minute shopping. More particulars and upcoming events will be planned at our September 4 meeting.
Members are encouraged and invited to attend the annual dinner meeting at the Anchor Inn at 6 pm on Thursday, May 29. Call Marilee by May 26 at 705-368-2547 for a reservation.
