McArthur-DeathMarch 23, 1933 – June 20, 2014

Maxwell Burke McArthur, 81, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2014 with family by his side after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on March 23, 1933 in the community of Providence Bay, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada to the late John Douglas (J.D.) and Nellie McArthur. He touched many people’s lives as he worked over 30-plus years with the H.C. Prange Company (Green Bay), and Elder Beerman Store (Dayton, Ohio) as a top executive. He spent many countless hours at the many stores and locations he was in charge of and loved every minute of it. He enjoyed getting away from the stress of the job by vacationing with his many friends and family on Manitoulin Island. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, and watching hockey. He is survived by his children, Craig McArthur, St. Petersburg, FL; Lori (Karen Filppula) McArthur, Green Bay; Amy (Robert) Thompson, Pulaski; Maureen (Scott Hertwig) McArthur, Gillett; grandchildren, Andrew Thompson, Noah Filppula-McArthur, Miranda Ness, Taylor Thompson, and Joshua Filppula-McArthur; sister Marion (John) Mason, Spring Bay, ON; Randy (Karen) McArthur, Green Bay; Doug (Marsha) McArthur, Largo, FL; special friend Peg Truex, St. Petersburg, FL; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Delia McArthur, son Michael McArthur, and sister Eileen McArthur. For expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund is being established in his name to the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary.
