In loving memory of Elizabeth Hammond, a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, Gore Bay, who died at the Lodge on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the age of 93 years, surrounded by her family. She was born on Barrie Island, daughter of the late Joseph and Annie (Greenman) Merrylees. In 1940 she married Percy Hammond (predeceased in 1955) and resided in Toronto until 1946 before moving to Gore Bay where she lived the rest of her life. Elizabeth had worked as a clerk at Ross Strain’s Rexall Drug Store for over 20 years. She was a very active member of the community, in Lyons Memorial United Church, was a charter member of the Eastern Star and she loved to travel, having visited many places around Canada and the US. Elizabeth will also be remembered for playing her harmonica in the Old Tyme Orchestra. Many memories will be cherished by her family and friends. Lizzie was predeceased by her beloved husband Percy. Loving and loved mother of Murray and his wife Anne of Evansville and Marilyn Nicholson (husband John predeceased) of Waterloo. Proud grandmother of Roger Hammond and his wife Cathy of Sudbury, Colin and Darryl Nicholson both of Kitchener and great-grandchildren Brittany and Jenna Hammond and Colleen, John and Alana Nicholson. Dear sister of Audrey Elliot, husband Gerald of Little Current and sister-in-law Kathleen Merrylees of Gore Bay. Predeceased by sister Kathleen Bryant and brothers Jim and Wilmer Merrylees. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Culgin Funeral Home on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 9:30 am to 11 am. The funeral service to celebrate Elizabeth’s life will be conducted in the Wm. G. Turner Chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 11 am with Rev. Jim McKean officiating.
