Marion Elizabeth (Betty) Sloss of Gore Bay and formerly of Spring Bay, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, December 3, 2015 in her 93rd year. Beloved mother of Jim (Sharon) Sloss and Mary Lynn McQuarrie, both of Gore Bay and Susan (Rick) Grenon of Windsor. Betty will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Christy (Duane) Deschamps, Bill (Jennifer) Sloss, Amy Grenon, John Grenon, Katherine McQuarrie, Ronald McQuarrie, great-grandchildren Emily and James Sloss, as well as her brother Alex (Mary Lou) Lochead of London. Predeceased by her husband Elwood, parents William Hugh and Marion (Park) Lochead, sister Marguerite Lochead, brother Charles Lochead and son-in-law Donald McQuarrie. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Betty was born in Dalhousie Township and grew up in Mindemoya. She loved gardening, curling, fishing and hunting. In her earlier years she sewed and was an accomplished knitter. She loved to watch the birds at her feeders and participated in the annual bird count. She liked to play bridge and euchre. Betty worked alongside her husband Elwood in the family business W.J. Sloss and Sons. Her family was her pride and joy and at family gatherings, she lit up the room with her warm spirit. Visitation was held at the Simpson Funeral Home, Gore Bay on Monday, December 7, 2015 from 11 am until time of the funeral service at 12 noon. Interment Grimesthorpe Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Manitoulin Lodge or the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary as expressions of sympathy.
