Manitoulin Variety Showcase raises funds for new Wiikwemkoong Nursing Home

WIIKWEMKOONG—The stars came out for a night of musical entertainment and to raise funds for a new elders’ home in Wiikwemkoong—and so did 240 audience members.

“We made $4,000,” said co-organizer Audrey Ozawebineshi, adding that it is hoped that those watching via the online streaming of the concert would be sending in donations. Among the cheques presented that night were $1,000 from Buzwah Variety’s Dawn Jacko and Rick Leedham, Marc Pheasant of Zipp Thru Gas. Andrew Manitowabi Group paid for the arena rental.

“This was Gordie’s (Odjig) idea to help the nursing home,” said Ms. Ozawebineshi. “Gordie is always present in the community.”
