Manitoulin Transport tops for safety

MISSISSAUGA—Very few Canadian transport carriers achieve ‘elite’ status for their commitments to fleet safety. Manitoulin Transport has made this an almost annual achievement.

Manitoulin has been awarded ‘elite’ status again this year in a 2021 national independent audit by Northbridge Insurance. Northbridge’s highest safety category demonstrates Manitoulin’s on-going efforts to ensure the safety of its staff, customers shipments and the communities in which it operates.

“We place a very high priority on safety, in areas like driver safety, maintenance, equipment, carriers and cargo management,” Jeff King, president of Manitoulin Transport, told The Expositor.

Mr. King noted, “only five percent of carriers meet the criteria to attain the elite status and our company has been able to achieve this for about five years consecutively.”

“Manitoulin is a leader in the transportation industry,” said Mr. King. “We hold ourselves to a very high standard and believe in setting an example in the industry by implementing best practices and operating professionally and responsibly at every level of the organization.”

The Northbridge audit focuses on five key safety-related metrics: driver management, equipment management, safety management, cargo management, and compliance performance. Manitoulin achieved an overall score of 4.6 out of a possible five points.

Northbridge Insurance has more than 60 years’ experience working with the transportation sector. Its transportation and logistics best practices council, which creates the industry benchmarks used in its audits, includes risk managers from leading Canadian transportation firms. Its risk management services aim to protect clients from losses and enhance its client’s own risk management efforts.
