Manitoulin Transport, Near North gift House of Kin $100,000 for renovations

SUDBURY – House of Kin, the low-cost medical hotel for people travelling from all over Ontario to Sudbury for treatment or care, received a boost of late thanks to a generous donation from Manitoulin Transport and Near North Customs Brokers.

House of Kin allows the patient, loved ones or support system to stay for a reduced rate, which is close to half of what other hotels charge.

The House of Kin is getting a makeover thanks to the $100,000 donation.

Karly Bortolotti, fundraising/marketing coordinator for the House of Kin said, “This is something we have been dreaming of doing for a long time but it has been out of financial reach for us being a non-profit organization. This donation is going to let us completely renovate the lobby, which hasn’t been updated in almost 20 years. We plan to make sure everything is completely accessible and barrier-free for our guests when they arrive and check-in to the House of Kin. Thank you to Jeff Smith of the Manitoulin Group of Companies for helping our dreams become a reality.”

In an interview with the Manitoulin West Recorder Mr. Smith said “we have been supporters of the House of Kin in Sudbury for many years. For those not familiar with them, they are located at the four corners in close proximity to Health Sciences North. They provide low-cost accommodations to patients and/or families staying in Sudbury for medical treatment. This is a tremendous resource for folks from Manitoulin Island and across Northeastern Ontario and we are proud to provide them with funding that will allow them to update their lobby facilities to be accessible to all and modernized.”
