Manitoulin Transport Donates $25K to MHC Sweet Slumbers campaign

GORE BAY—The Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) ‘Sweet Slumbers’ fundraising campaign has received a very significant financial boost thanks to Manitoulin Transport.

Jeff Smith, executive vice-president of Manitoulin Transport, presented a cheque in the amount of $25,000 to MHC Chief Executive Officer Derek Graham last Monday towards the MHC’s latest fundraising campaign.

“We are very pleased and happy to be the first corporate sponsor for the MHC Sweet Slumbers fundraising campaign for the replacement of beds at each hospital site,” said Mr. Smith, “and we hope the word gets out to other corporations-businesses both on and off the Island or those visiting the Island who have used the Island hospitals in the past and encourage them to support the campaign as well.”

Mr. Graham confirmed that Manitoulin Transport is the first business to participate in the fundraising campaign that seeks to replace 10 beds at each MHC hospital site, in Mindemoya and Little Current. He noted the current beds are being replaced with newer units that cost between $8,000 and $10,000 each with an expected 15-year lifespan.

“We thank Manitoulin Transport for their support of this campaign, and for their continued support for our Island hospitals,” said Mr. Graham.  “I think it is a natural fit and gratifying that Manitoulin Transport is the first corporation/business that wants to get involved as part of the campaign. It shows great leadership on the part of Jeff and the company, and it has been shown in the past how important it has been in past campaigns to have a company like this take the lead as it encourages and challenges others to do the same and basically says ‘let’s work together to support our hospitals’.”

“This is a great thing to be part of and we hope it will kick off others doing the same and supporting the valuable services provided at the MHC,” added Mr. Smith.
