MANITOULIN—A total of nine Manitoulin Special Olympics (MSO) team players and coaches have been selected for the Team Ontario training squad to take part in the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary, Alberta in 2024.

“We are pretty excited about this,” said MSO coordinator and coach Janet Anning, last week.  “It is huge news.”

Ms. Anning explained, “we have one of our curling rinks that is going to the Nationals.” The team includes Dylan Danville, William Leclair, Tyler Madahbee, Austin Recollet and Dayne Tipper, who took gold in the regional tournament earlier this year. Ms. Anning has been selected as one of the coaches for the Ontario team along with coach Ellen Holroyd.

MSO snowshoeing athlete Matthew Bedard has been chosen for Team Ontario, as has coach Joanne Mellan. Mr. Bedard won a goal medal in the five-kilometre and 800 metre races at the regional competition earlier this year.
