Manitoulin Special Olympics bring home the gold

MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Special Olympics (MSO) teams won gold and silver medals at the softball provincial qualifier in Azilda this past weekend.

“Our Manitoulin Nightriders Adapt division team played against North Bay and Sudbury and came away with gold medals,” said MSO coordinator and coach Janet Anning. “This team is rebuilding and has some new athletes, Braedon Harper and Triston Eadie, who jumped in and really helped. And because both our teams ended up playing at the same time our coaches and volunteers had to divide and conquer on the ball fields,” she said, thanking Roslyn Taylor, Michelle Lanktree, Steve Salt, Amanda James and Tanya Cox for helping this team to win gold.

The Manitoulin Nightriders roster included Bruce Vanhorn, Danielle Foreshew, Braedon Harper, Tim Bradley, David Gagne, Anna Bateman and Triston Eadie.

“Our Manitoulin Wolverines C division team came home with a silver medal after losing out to Almaguin,” said Ms. Anning, who thanked fellow coaches Sandra Graham, Kathy Nickol and Herve Leclair for helping on the bench with the team.
