Manitoulin snowmobile trails closed due to above zero temps

MANITOULIN—Due to the ‘January thaw’ conditions Manitoulin Island has been experiencing over the past two weeks, Island snowmobile trails are currently listed as “unavailable,” or closed, on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) website.

The Snowdusters are hoping Island riders will stay off the trails in order to leave the base that currently exists intact for when colder weather, and hopefully more snow, does come upon us. (Weather reports indicate this could be as soon as this weekend.)

This newspaper reminds winter enthusiasts that 10 centimetres of ice is needed for safe passage on foot or for ice fishing with a minimum of 12 centimetres needed for safe snowmobiling.
