LITTLE CURRENT—The Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reports a decrease in the number of domestic related incidents it investigated and the number of charges it laid for criminal offences in 2022.

“The Manitoulin OPP investigated 309 domestic related incidents in 2022, 88 of which resulted in someone being charged with a criminal offence. This is a four-percent decrease in domestic related incidents compared to 2021 where 321 domestic related charges were investigated and 78 resulted in charges,” a release explains.

Some of the charges included assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, distributing images without consent, utter threats to cause death or bodily harm, sexual assault, criminal harassment, mischief and arson.

To protect the identity of the victims, the OPP will not release the names of those involved.
