MINDEMOYA–On Tuesday April 02, 2013 at 12:15 pm Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police responded to a complaint of possible gunshots being heard in the vicinity of Central Manitoulin Public School in Mindemoya. A school staff employee heard what appeared to be gunshots while on yard duty and advised administration of the school who called police.
As a precautionary measure the Central Manitoulin Public School was advised to follow procedures and go into a lockdown condition while police responded. OPP immediately arrived on scene and advised to downgrade the lockdown condition and go into a hold and secure condition while police determined the cause of the noise complaint.
The school was given the all clear prior to the end of the school day and the students returned safely home.
Police investigation could not determine the cause of the noise being heard.
“As part of safety planning with schools these measures are put in place to insure the upmost safety of all students.” advised Constable Allan Boyd Community Services Officer for the Manitoulin OPP. “At no time were the students in danger in this investigation.
