Manitoulin Manhattan author delighted with fashion gala

To the Expositor:

It was with such delight that I read in the January 23 edition of The Manitoulin Expositor about the Expressions Fashion and Arts Gala at Wasse Abin High School in Wikwemikong. Seeing The Manitoulin Expositor’s full-page 1A with the headline “Watch Out New York!” made this New Yorker, this faithful subscriber, sit right up straight and yell ‘woo hoo’!

Last winter I had the honour and fun meeting teacher Valerie O’Leary, the motivator and director of the Gala, and her students, when they arrived in New York City to attend Fashion Week. They stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel several blocks from my apartment. I was thrilled to attend New York Fashion Week with them, hang out with them, and by the time they left, I wanted to come north with these, charming talented students!

When the fashion shows were not on, we took the NY subway down to Canal Street for serious, discounted shopping. And oh, boy, did the Wasse Abin gals do well! Another woo hoo!

Reading The Expositor is a treat and privilege for me, in New York City each winter, allowing me to keep current with news, events, friends, and to dream about summer on Manitoulin. Seeing how the auditorium was set up, the fashions, offerings and ideas makes me so proud of Valerie O’Leary and her students, achieving an amazing day of accomplishment, elegance, whimsy, design and fun.

All Manitoulin Fashionista’s may be interested to know that the recent New York Fashion Week this winter was one of the most subdued in fashion history, leaving fashion lovers to focus on clothes that reflected the season’s politely muted fashion tones.

So, you are the Manitoulin bee’s knees! Bravo, ladies!

Respectfully,
Bonnie Kogos
