WIIKWEMKOONG—Little Current Public School (LCPS) teams took the top two spots in the annual Manitoulin elementary school senior division soccer tournament on May 10. Finishing third was the Central Manitoulin Public School (CMPS) team.
Dwayne Animikwan, communications officer with the Wiikwemkoong Board of Education reported that Wiikwemkoong Pontiac School hosted the tournament. Teams from Charles C. McLean (Gore Bay), CMPS, LCPS (two teams), Lakeview School (M’Chigeeng) and Wiikwemkoong Pontiac School participated in the one-day tournament.
A total of 14 games were played on two fields and each game was made up of two 10-minute halves.
“Congratulations to LCPS team No. 1 made up of Max King, Jade Larabie, Charmaine Webkamigad, Kayla Lockeyer, Niomi Tomaselli, Collin Goodfellow, Aaron Townsend, Spencer Cortes, Ryan Carter, Roen Deschenes and Lily Gordon, who finished first,” said Mr. Animikwan.
LCPS team No. 2 finished second. The team included Kain Corbiere, Kirsten Bowerman, Brooklynn Ferguson, Avery Barnes, Morgan Dedman, Chloie Hildebrand, Aaven Edralin, Liam Stephens, Landon Maloney, Shlok Gandhi and Luis Anaya.
The third place CMPS team included Jonathan Cooper, Kaci Lariviere, Scarlet Mohr, Gabriella Forsythe, Chase Taylor, Jack Bridgeman, Sean Zembal, Kimberlee Williams, Anders Watson, Josh Daniso, Jonah Balfe, Eric Wahl, Elizabeth Cooper and coach Ellen Ferguson. CMPS defeated Lakeview to take third place.
The Lakeview team which finished in fourth place included Ethan Ense, Dylan Bebonang, Landon Armstrong, Ayden Loucks, Kingston Abel-Armstrong, Davin Enosse, Lourdes Taukei, Maria Ense-Cheechoo, Sophia Hare, Aurora Panamick, Damara Wassegijig and Alexis Young.
The teams enjoyed beautiful weather and were cooled off with two Pontiac school classes selling slushies, drinks and snacks. A special miigwetch to Mr. Fox for coordinating, Mr. Peltier and Mr. Wood for officiating the games.
