Wikwemikong Tourism, Expositor again partner
MANITOULIN – Wikwemikong Tourism has again joined forces with The Manitoulin Expositor to host the second Manitoulin Ice Showdown with the goal of growing tourism and increasing overnight visitor numbers to Manitoulin Island during the winter season.
Wikwemikong Tourism Manager Luke Wassegijig announced that the second Manitoulin Ice Showdown will take place February 22 and 23, 2020 on Manitowaning Bay and Lake Manitou on beautiful Manitoulin Island.
As the event lead, Wikwemikong Tourism will continue to offer exceptional hospitality and will work with The Manitoulin Expositor and local area sponsors to offer a combination of big cash and product prizes for top 10 winners on each lake, as well as big registration prizes, and the derby exclusive “Pimp’d Hut” prize package.
The Manitoulin Ice Showdown will be held later in February in order to take advantage of a weekend in which no other local area derbies are happening. The date change is expected to result in increased participant numbers with over 600 anglers competing for over $50,000 in prizes including top 10 prizes on each lake. New this year will also be the introduction of a live leaderboard, which will enable organizers and anglers with the ability to instantly track standings.
While making the announcement, Mr. Wassegijig credited the partnership with The Manitoulin Expositor for allowing what was previously the Wiikwemkoong Ice Fishing Derby to grow into a multi-day derby with the goal of attracting more overnight visitors to Manitoulin Island, saying that “The Manitoulin Expositor does great work in promoting Manitoulin Island as a travel destination. This partnership is a perfect fit to help our event reach its full economic potential.”
Tickets will be available starting Wednesday, November 13 online through www.fishmanitoulin.com as well as at select Manitoulin Island outlets. Stop by The Expositor Office in downtown Little Current on Ladies’ Night, Thursday, November 21, to pick up a ticket for your loved one—they make a great Christmas gift.
A portion of derby proceeds assists Wikwemikong Tourism in delivering premier events and cultural initiatives throughout the year.
