MELDRUM BAY—The Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) is getting a donation of $500 from the Meldrum Bay Poker Paddle.
Beautiful weather on Saturday, June 24 brought a record turnout for this year’s Joe’s Poker Paddle. Eager participants started arriving early to take part in another fun event. Grabbing their watercraft, they set off to collect their tokens for their poker hand. Some were quite competitive; others were much more leisurely.
Organizer Joe Weston kept a keen eye on proceedings and was delighted with the turnout. “Thanks to our sponsors (Seven2One Studio, Stop 540, Randi’s Snack Shack and 540 Ends) we have attracted a bumper crowd. They all seem to be having a fun time,” said Mr. Weston.
Top prize of the day was won by Whitney Dodman, of 540 Ends store in Meldrum Bay. His winning hand edged out Ellen Richardson who had returned to Meldrum Bay for this event.
Other winners included the Meldrum Bay social correspondent to The Manitoulin Expositor, Elaine Bradley, who collected the top door prize.
Between LCBO vouchers, personalized local glassware, food vouchers and clothing, all prize winners went home very happy.
Mr. Weston had a surprise for some of the finishers as they arrived back. They were greeted with a barrage of water balloons as they got back to base, just a little extra water to complete their day.
Mr. Weston confirmed that the day’s fun had managed to raise $500 for the Manitoulin Health Centre in Mindemoya. He added, “I am already planning for next year!”
