Manitoulin Health Centre Auxiliary News

Discussion at the May meeting focussed on accomplishments since September 2022, plans for the year ahead and fundraising during the summer months.

As previously reported, the new $18,000 ECG machine is now fully paid for. Funds were raised by regular means and the Rock-a-Thon put us over the top. Sincere thanks to all who honoured their pledges to help in achieving our goal.

A unanimous decision was made for the purchase of a Vital Signs Monitor at a cost of $8,000. The monitor will assess patient needs efficiently and enable quicker diagnoses.

Auxiliary members and supporters have anxiously waited for the reopening of the Tuck Cart Room. May 15 is the day! We will be open Monday to Friday from 11 am till 1 pm with all your favourite goodies and new break open tickets called RIP-IT. Tickets still 50 cents and prizes are as large as $100. The money raised will be used for all aspects of patient services.

Book sales begin at the Pavilion side on June 3. Due to limited space, our selections will be fewer. Hopefully, circumstances will change over the summer. The only books that can be donated at this time is limited to pocketbooks by “current” authors. Space is a problem! Please call Laila at 368-2580 if you plan to donate.

Our main revenue during the market season has been book sales. To fundraise we will depend more on public support at the tuck cart room, coin boxes and In Memoriam donations. In Memoriam donations can be made at the funeral home or at Admitting at the hospital. Make sure you specify MHC Auxiliary.

Regular patient services include headsets, care bags, dental bags, Crystal Clear water, Christmas gifts for all patients and New Year’s baby gifts. Books on the tuck cart are “Take me Home Books.’ Money we raise provides for all. The most expensive items are the headsets. We pay more than $3 per headset as well as shipping so when you see a coin box, drop in $3. You’ve bought a headset!

Other business included the naming of representatives for various positions. Most members are continuing their roles for efficiency in organizing and planning to maintain the work of our Auxiliary.

On June 12 at 6 pm we will have our dinner meeting at the Conference Centre.

Call Marilee at 705-368-2547 to book. Regular meetings resume in September.

On behalf of the members of the MHC Auxiliary, we thank you for your continued support to enable us to make a difference! Enjoy the summer ahead and practice safety in all of your activities.
