The regular meeting was held on Thursday, March 3 at 7 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room.
Ongoing fundraisers such as the HELPP Lottery, In Memoriam donations, Tuck Cart\Showcase and Coin Boxes continue to bring in the finances necessary for enhanced patient services. Thank you for your support!
Vesey bulb catalogues were distributed to many members. There are a lot of really good options available at reasonable prices. Choices for colour themed gardens in red, orange, pink, white and summertime blue are featured. How about trying white strawberries? All Vesey’s plants will grow in all zones although some would have to be stored for the winter. Their guarantee is excellent. Contact Dave (705-368-1709) the co-ordinator or contact a MHC Auxiliary member to order.

The delegates and local provincial representatives are looking forward to the Spring Conference in Sault Ste. Marie.
Dave Sylvester, our board liaison member, gave a report. He spoke about the recent Ontario Ministry of Health document “Patients first: A proposal to strengthen patient-centered health care in Ontario.” He talked about initiatives already taken by the Manitoulin Health Centre over the past few years with staff training, hospital organization and renovations with that very theme “Patients First” as that goal.
Dave also mentioned the Manitoulin Health Collaborative that has been co-ordinated by the Manitoulin Health Centre executive, bringing 16 Island care spectrum agencies together to better enable local patient-centered care. The Manitoulin Health Collaborative has written a letter of congratulations to the Minister of Health, congratulating them on the vision and leadership in launching the “Patients First” document. Mention was also made of the recent increased health care funding from the Ministry of Health.
On April 7 our regular meeting will be followed by the Annual General Meeting. There will be elections for the executive and representatives for our activities will be chosen. All members are encouraged to attend.
See you at the Casserole Dinner!
