GORDON—The Troy Chatwell and Kyle Kauppi team have won the Manitoulin Golf Mens’ open championship for the second time. They won the championship flight with a two-day, 36-hole score of 128 (63-65), winning this flight by five strokes over their nearest competitors. The annual tournament was held this past weekend.
Cheryl Deeg, clubhouse manager, said at the award ceremony, “I would like to thank everyone for coming out to play in the tournament this weekend. I would like to thank Dan (Marois) (who handled the scorekeeping), all the volunteers who helped out and my staff for all their hard work.”
Ms. Deeg noted there were hole-in-one prizes provided by Pat Noble Lumber and McQuarrie Motors, while The Island Remax (Jordan Chandler) provided the door prize.
“Thanks to Dave Carr and the grounds crew for having the course in great shape for the tournament,” said Mr. Marois.
The second flight winners were the team of Marcel Leclair and Gord Reid who had a total score of 141 (71-70). They have each played in all 42 mens’ open tournaments. The third flight was won by Andre Corbiere and Todd Fox who had a total score of 146 (73-73). The fourth flight was won by Josh Bigras and Yves Poirier who had a score of 151 (77-74). The fifth flight first place team was made up of Carson McLeod and Kyle Nodecker with a total score of 152 (80-72).
Special prizes were presented to Aaron Assinewai for longest drive, Warren Corbiere for shot closest to the pin on the 11th hole and to Gord Reid for shot closest to the 15th hole.
The annual tournament hosted a total of 120 players.
