MANITOWANING—In its fifth year, the Manitoulin Deer Show in Manitowaning is excited to present not one but three incredible speakers from popular outdoors television programs. The fun starts at 10 am when the doors open and will continue until 3 pm on Sunday, August 26. The cost is $10 per adult and $5 for kids age 6 and over.
Amanda Lynn Mayhew from ‘Just Hunt’ on WILD tv will be hosting a 45-minute presentation on Women and Youth in the Outdoors. Ms. Mayhew is the Official Ambassador and Host of the Great Outdoors Stage for the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show. She is one of the most popular female ambassadors in hunting and fishing in Canada. It will be a treat to hear her speak on such a hot topic, as more and more women and kids take to the great outdoors to enjoy this wonderful hobby.
Also from WILD tv is the family oriented outdoors show ‘Homemade Hunters’ featuring Bob and Jaime Radu. Bob and Jaime are also the hosts of ‘The Outdoorz Guyz Radio Show’ on a local station in southern Ontario where they share their passion for hunting and fishing, promoting all things outdoors. They will be here to speak to the kids before they compete in the Wilderness Challenge. This will take place outside in the ball diamond at 11:30 am. Last year there was an obstacle course that had them climbing, jumping and walking precariously on some narrow boards, as well as spear throwing, target practice and animal identification challenges. This year will no doubt be bigger and better! Two $100 cash prizes are up for grabs. Conquer the Kids Wilderness Challenge for your chance to win!
Back by popular demand is Ian Anderson, a retired Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officer and exceptionally knowledgeable local deer hunter. He will be speaking about predator control, a hot topic on the Island.
Perry’s Gun Shop from Sault Ste. Marie will be coming as well our local gun shop Manitoulin Guns and Pawn. The Manitoulin Deer Show will feature many other great vendors and exhibitors.
The Wild Game Cook Off has grown so much from its first year, thanks in part to Jake’s Home Centres that continue to sponsor this event with amazing prizes. This year the prize is a camouflage rocker and recliner, perfect for any home or hunt camp. Our panel of judges will be back hungrier than ever and ready to sample the amazing food prepared by the contestants. This year, on a first come first serve basis we will allow food to be plugged in, if required. Cooks will still be responsible for registering their food and getting it to the contest on time.
Upon request, hunters who make the effort to bring in their deer mounts will be recognized even more. In the past, they would have their name entered for a chance to win one prize, but this has now been increased to not only include a firearm but up to four awesome prizes will be awarded for the Deer Mount Contest! All the more reason to brag about your mount and maybe even with a prize.
Bring in your game camera photos by 11 am or email them to info@assiginack.ca in advance for a chance to win the $100 Best Game Camera Prize.
“This year, with the amazing speakers, fun events and cool prizes to be won, we are encouraging everyone to come out and see how fun this event is!” Assiginack events coordinator Jackie White encouraged.
The Manitoulin Deer Show takes place on Sunday, August 26 at the Manitowaning Arena.
