Manitoulin Community Church hosts Lumberjack Festival

TEHKUMMAH—Leave it to the folks at Tehkummah’s Manitoulin Community Church to come up with a great community event. This time was a Lumberjack Festival hosted in the church’s spacious back yard.

“We thought it would be something fun to do,” said Pastor Wendy Payne. The church volunteers set up a free barbecue from 1:30 pm to 4 pm on Sunday. From 1:30 to 3 pm there were regular picnic games for all ages, such as three-legged races and a photo booth for the taking pictures. At 3 pm the action heated up, however, with games oriented for those aged 12 and up.

There was log rolling (sort of a caber toss featuring a five to six-foot log), nail driving, ax throwing and there were prizes set for all.

The caber toss involved throwing a five to six-foot log.

“It was a fun way to celebrate and a community event,” said Pastor Payne.
