Manitoulin Community Choir held two performances

MANITOULIN—The Manitoulin Community Choir provided some new faces as conductors at the group’s two recent performances in Kagawong and Spring Bay.

“This year the Manitoulin Community Choir was excited to welcome two new conductors to the podium,” said Jane Best, director and conductor of the choir. “Janelle Addison and Kirsten Nelson were invited to begin learning the art of conducting, spent some time working with me, and a lot of time practicing.”

Ms. Nelson also volunteered to accompany some of the songs performed at the concerts on the piano, and Paul Best accompanied numerous songs on the guitar. Ms. Best said this combination of talented people enable her to have a choice, sometimes conducting the choir and also accompanying on the piano, so that the choir could offer a varied program for their concert.

Ms. Addison also played various percussion instruments on different songs and Jon Best played recorder.

“With heavy snow this weekend we had a small but valiant audience in Kagawong on Friday night (November 29), and a larger audience at the Spring Bay Church on Sunday afternoon (December 1). Everyone’s participation this fall made this performance truly a community effort,” said Ms. Best.
