MANITOULIN—Several Manitoulin communities are receiving funding through the Ontario 150th Anniversary Community Capital Program Funding.
Ontario is celebrating its 150th anniversary as a province by improving and renovating over 200 sports facilities, parks, seniors centres, and other community spaces, bringing positive change to communities and families across the province.
Eleanor McMahon, minister of tourism, culture and sport, made the announcement Tuesday. “The Ontario 150 community capital program will positively impact people right across the province by improving public spaces like parks and youth centres. Our investments in these important projects will build a strong social, cultural and economic legacy for our communities for years to come.”
The Dawson Citizens Improvement Association will receive $111,500 to upgrade critical infrastructure at the marina in Meldrum Bay to ensure long-term use.
The municipality of Central Manitoulin will receive a $58,000 grant to make accessibility upgrades to the J.H. Burt Memorial Arena with an accessible entranceway.
The Ojibway Cultural Foundation will receive $145,300 to install a new geo-thermal HVAC unit and upgrade the phone system at the cultural centre/museum.
And, the Township of Billings is receiving a grant of $16,000 to repair and preserve the village of Kagawong’s pioneer museum.
The Ontario 150 Community Capital Program will help not for profit organizations, municipalities and indigenous communities renovate, repair and retrofit existing community and cultural infrastructure. This support will be used to increase accessibility, improve safety and maximize community use of public spaces.
