CANMORE, ALBERTA—Biathlete Mackenzie Turner of Gore Bay has been selected to participate in the Canada Winter Games being held next month.
“Yes, I made the Canada Games team for Ontario and will be racing in Red Deer, Alberta in the (Canada) Winter Games,” Ms. Turner told The Recorder January 18. “I have a race weekend between now and then to prep for the games and then after the Canada games it will be just getting prepared for Nationals in Whistler, British Columbia.”
As was reported previously, after coming back from a serious health scare that sidelined her from racing for about 11 months, Ms. Turner got her 2018-2019 biathlon season started earlier this month, finishing first and third in her two races in Canmore, Alberta. Racing with the ‘Rocky Mountain Racers,’ a local training group in Canmore, Ms. Turner took part in a Nor-Am (North American) competition there.
She recently raced in Quebec as well. “The races weren’t my best in Quebec, but I am still happy with them and to have made the Canada Games team once again,” Ms. Turner told The Recorder. “I am still working really hard to make up for the lost training over the summer, and I am slowly beginning to see things come together.”
