M.S.S. Kids In The Halls

Welcome back! It is officially the last week of the 2023-2024 school year for Manitoulin Secondary School students. This year has been filled with challenges and triumphs, good times and bad times and now, regardless of how it went, it’s (almost) over. The last obstacle left is balancing our eagerness for summer break while simultaneously studying for exams.

With the year coming to an end, we must bid farewell to the graduating class. Their graduation was held on Thursday, June 13 and was host to families from across the Island coming to celebrate their loved ones achievements. This year, the valedictorian was Mackenzie Green who delivered a remarkable speech that celebrated her class’s accomplishments and had the audience laughing. Congratulations to all of the graduates!

Friday, June 14 was Prom Night. Grade 12s and their dates got dressed up and headed over to the 4 Directions Complex in Aundeck Omni Kaning. This was the first school-run offsite prom in MSS history. That night, the venue was host to lots of dancing, music, laughter and celebration. The prom also served as a time for graduates to make a couple more high school memories before they depart for post-secondary school or the workforce.

Monday, June 17 the mental health extracurricular group Headstrong gave students the opportunity to disconnect from their tech and participate in an “unplugged” lunch. This lunch period was spent phone-free as students played bocce ball and Ultimate Frisbee. There was also a draw for prizes for some lucky participants.

With only a few days of school left, MSS is jumping into exam season. Exam days are from Monday, June 24 to Thursday, June 27 and exam schedules have been sent out to student emails. Good luck to everyone writing!

That is all for this week! Until next time, go, Mustangs, go!
