M.S.S. Kids In The Halls

There are just two weeks left of school before exams! Summer is in the air as students begin to finish up culminating projects, study for exams and make plans with their friends. Even with school coming to a close, there is still a lot to do! This week, MSS students were busy with environmental initiatives and field trips – some students even went to Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA)!

Ms. Cheng’s Outdoor Education class went on a canoeing trip this past week. Using the skills learned throughout the semester, students were well prepared to take on the wilderness and have a lot of fun in the meantime!

Several students from MSS made the tremendous achievement of qualifying for the OFSAA track and field meet. Students Greyson Case, Alan Wilkin, Andrew Cooper, TJ Green, Wyatt Williamson-Wright, Maren Kasunich, Colin Lindner, Annie Balfe, Sadie Bridgeman, Brodie Pennie, Mya Balfe, Fia Flanagan and Jack Bridgeman were proudly representing MSS at the Western University campus from Thursday, June 6 to Saturday, June 8. Congratulations to our athletes!

The robotics team has been busy with different environmental protection events this week. In honour of World Environment Day, the team participated in a community clean-up after school. The group cleaned up around the school grounds, the nearby playground and the ditches on the road leading to the school. Armed with garbage bags, grabbers and sanitary gloves, the team picked up four large bags of trash and recycling. Manitoulin Metal was also host to an e-waste drive this week. The annual event strives to keep electronics out of landfills by recycling them properly. All week, community members could drop off old TVs, smartphones, appliances and more. The robotics team saved several large crates of electronics from going to the landfill.

Yearbooks for sale! The MSS 2023-2024 yearbook is officially available for order. The yearbook committee has been working tirelessly taking photos, hosting grad awards, gathering graduates’ quotes and more. For those interested in purchasing a yearbook they can go to this link: https://online.edgeimaging.ca/, and enter the school code “MAN”.

This Friday, June 7 was Anything but a Backpack Day. As it says in the name, students can bring in all their school supplies in something other than the typical backpack. Students brought in waste paper bins and cooking pots among other things to hold their textbooks.

That is all for this week! Until next time, go, Mustangs, go!

The Manitoulin Secondary School Robotics crew were hard at work cleaning up the environment.
