Here we are again, Mustangs! October is slowly coming to an end as we see more and more bare trees. Students are bundled up and ready for more snowfall. Halloween is just around the corner and soon we will get to see teachers and students alike preparing for the candy and costumes that come along with it.
Here’s a Halloween joke for you: How did the vampire prey on its victims in the cold weather? With the help of frostbite!
Many sports events have been happening lately at MSS. Our school proudly hosted pre-NSSSA (North-Shore Secondary School Athletics) and NSSSA cross country at the Rainbow Ridge golf course in Manitowaning on Friday, October 14 and Friday, October 21 consecutively. MSS had 23 runners participating. The girls’ basketball teams have been very busy with tournaments and games with their most recent home game being on Tuesday, October 18. The boys’ volleyball teams hosted a home tournament on Wednesday, October 19 having played in only one tournament previously to that.
MSS will be hosting a Halloween carnival for students on Monday, October 31. At lunch there will be a variety of games like door decorating and a costume contest. Students can also carve pumpkins with their friends and win some candy. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there!
On Wednesday, October 19 there was a fair for students looking into university. Some of the universities that sent representatives include: Algoma, Western, Trent, and more! Students were able to ask questions about different programs, collect handouts and even get some merch. Just a reminder that the deadline for applications to OUAC (Ontario University Application Centre) is January 12.
Picture retakes were on Tuesday, November 1. Students who missed getting their photos taken or needed them redone were able to do so. Like last time, picture proofs will be sent out and families can order from there, picture retakes come at no cost to the student.
From October 25 to the 31 students are encouraged to bring in canned goods and donations to support Halloween for Hunger. Proceeds will be donated to The Living Well Locker and Manitoulin Family Resources. Students may also be trick or treating for non-perishable food items Halloween night in support of the cause, so keep your eye out!
