MSS students and staff have shown great school spirit through the first stretch of second semester. On Tuesday, the Mustang girls’ hockey team played their first play-off game against St. Benedict’s at the M’Chigeeng Arena. The girls had a good season, winning most of their games.
On Friday, some of the students and staff of MSS dressed up in their fairytale costumes for Fairytale Day. There were witches, princesses and knights. The spirit day was inspired by the school production Once Upon a Mattress, which finished its run of shows on Saturday. The cast and production crew of the musical were all proud for the successful show. Everyone involved in the play was sad that the show ended but enjoyed a cast party after closing night. There was lots of positive feedback from audience members.
MSS is hosting the 2016 NSSSA Curling Championships Wednesday and Thursday. There is a boys’ team and a girls’ team competing, and all of the competitors have been training since October. The girls play on Wednesday, February 17 at 4 pm and on Thursday, February 18 at 3:30 pm at the Providence Bay Curling Club. The boys will be playing at the same times, but at the Mindemoya Curling Club. The following students will be competing: Rebecca Dawson, Morgan Hall, Emily Tardif, Jary White, Bryce Mastelko, Jordan Moore, Sean Patterson, Alex Ingram and Isaac Gosse.
There will be grade presentations starting on Tuesday with information about course selection. Each presentation will be tailored to the specific grade. Course selection will be done on myBlueprint during a class session. This is an online education planner that can also be accessed from home. Students can also make guidance appointments if they have individual questions about course selection.
Graduation photos will be taken Monday, February 22, Tuesday, February 23 and Wednesday, February 24. There is no cost for students to get their picture taken for yearbook and for the composite. If students plan on ordering graduation pictures there is a sitting fee payable the day pictures are taken. The sitting fee includes multiple poses and one 11×14 class composite with a vinyl cover. Students can sign up for an appointment online at www.lifetouch.ca/northernontatrio.
An upcoming workshop is available at Cambrian College for Grade 9 or 10 girls. Girls can learn more about careers as plumbers, electricians, welders, carpenters, or automotive mechanics. Interested students can sign the list in the guidance office. Space is limited to 10 students. If interested, students can talk to Mrs. Keatley for more information.
While saying goodbye to the musical, and saying hello to several championship opportunities, MSS students and staff are also looking to the future in careers and graduation. ‘Til next time, stay golden, Mustangs.
