M.S.S. Kids in the Halls

Exams are almost over, and students are getting ready to switch to second semester. There were small groups of students working together, playing games and chatting in the library and cafeteria throughout exam week. Donnshai Bruleigh, a Grade 9 student, said, “I like the fact that if we aren’t doing well in a class, we can boost our mark for the end of semester and pass our classes. The studying is very, very stressful.”

On the first day of exams, it was school-wide pajama day. Students walked into their exams wearing fuzzy pajamas and wrapped in blankets. It was nice to see students relaxing and showing school spirit.

After school today, the cast of Once Upon a Mattress resumes rehearsals after the exam break. With one week left until opening night the cast is finalizing choreography and musical numbers. Now, the backstage and technical crew are adding their expertise and the pit band is on the scene. Tickets are available at the Gore Bay I.D.A. and the Guardian Pharmacies in Manitowaning, Little Current and Mindemoya, as well as at the door.

The MSS Art Show is also fast approaching. The Artastic Fusion group is organizing the event, and if students want their art presented, they can go to Mrs. Wesno’s art room and get a form to fill out. Students can enter pottery, drawing, painting, or sculpting into the show.

Senior Band and Vocal Group are selling chocolate bars to fundraise for their April Toronto Trip. The students will be performing and witnessing bands and choirs perform. Parents and neighbours can support the students by buying a small chocolate bar for $2 or a big chocolate bar for $5.

Another trip in the forecast is the annual English Department trip to the Stratford Theatre Festival. Students in Grade 12 and 11 will race to sign up for this opportunity to see 4 world class productions in May. Macbeth, A Little Night Music, Shakespeare in Love, and Chorus Line are on the bill for this year’s trip.

With second semester the blink of an eye away, students and staff are ready for a fresh start. ‘Til next time, stay golden, Mustangs.
