Welcome back! There is just one day left until the March Break kicks off for students after school on Thursday, March 7. Unfortunately for teachers, they have a PA day on Friday, March 8 before their break begins.
On Thursday, February 29 there was a scone dog sale. Scone dog days are always highly anticipated at MSS, with students lining up the length of the hallway to get one. Scone dogs and a drink are sold for five dollars and are always well worth the money.
On Friday, March 1 the Student Council hosted a Ryan Reynolds movie buyout. Students could purchase a ticket—with the celebrity’s face plastered on it—the week leading up to the buyout. On the day of the buyout, students gathered in the cafeteria after lunch to watch ‘Free Guy’, starring Ryan Reynolds. The movie was a hit, with nearly 100 people coming to watch over the third and fourth period.
The Spring Equinox is on Tuesday, March 19, just two days after students return to school. While it is still winter, students from both the Athletics Association and Student Council are hosting a Winter Carnival on Thursday, March 7. For our winter sports enthusiasts, the Athletics Association is putting together a hockey tournament located at the M’Chigeeng arena. Players can enter a friendly competition with teams of other students and teachers. For those who prefer staying warm, the Student’s Council has a few things in store. At lunch, students can grab a hot chocolate before going up to sing their favourite karaoke song in the cafeteria. After, there will be a movie playing for teachers to bring their students to during the third and fourth period. The tech classes are lighting up a bonfire where students can roast marshmallows and enjoy each other’s company.
The week after March Break, on the 22nd, the robotics team’s competition season begins! In preparation, the Build Team visited Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School’s robotics team. The teams worked together to solve problems regarding robot programming. Additionally, Manitoulin Metal made some meaningful connections on Manitoulin last weekend. On Saturday, March 2, several team members volunteered at a monthly Staying In Touch session. This program is designed to help community members troubleshoot problems with their cellphones, tablets, cameras and computers—who better to help than teenagers! The next day, Sunday, March 3, five team members visited the nursing home in Gore Bay, Manitoulin Lodge. The team read their book, ‘Robofriends and the Mow Zone’ to residents, handed out buttons, answered questions, talked about their robot and gave a presentation.
Stay safe and healthy over the March Break, Mustangs! Until next time, go, Mustangs, go!
