M.S.S. Kids In The Hall

Welcome back from winter break, Mustangs! Hopefully students enjoyed eating Christmas cookies and sleeping in because they are now in exam season! Final projects and exam preparations rolled in this week—just like all the snow. Two surprise snow days came along with the shock of exams being just around the corner!

Adding to the post-break excitement, the administration dropped the bomb: exam schedules. Collective panic—or relief—has since ensued, filling the last fleeting weeks of the first semester.  Students are scrambling to catch up on assignments and study for their upcoming exams.

For the seniors, the past few days have held additional deadlines. Monday, January 15 was the last day to submit university applications in Ontario. Those applying to colleges still have until the end of January to apply. Good luck and congratulations to seniors who have (or will be) submitting applications this month!

Amidst the academic hustle and bustle, the ski and snowboarding team has begun looking for members. The team announced their return with an interest meeting on January 11, 2024. Now that there is snow, new and experienced members are welcome to join in on the winter fun.

During the winter break, on Saturday, January 6, the robotics team gathered for their build season kick-off. Each year Manitoulin Metal and robotics teams across the globe are tasked with a new challenge that they must build a brand-new robot for. As this year’s game was revealed, gears began to turn in the member’s minds about designing a robot that could complete the goals laid out in the challenge. No. 6865 ate pizza as they worked through the rules of the game and brainstormed this season’s robot. MPP Mike Mantha was in attendance and witness to the robotics team at work, asking questions and motivating members. Footage from the kick-off can be found on Manitoulin Metal’s Instagram page @frc6865.

Here is to a semester full of growth, accomplishments, and the occasional snow day to keep things interesting. Until next time, go, Mustangs, go!
