To say goodbye to March, many staff and students put a lot of effort into the literacy test. On Thursday March 31, several students at MSS wrote the literacy test. This test is a graduation requirement and students need a 75 percent or higher to pass. Before the test began students could be seen in the halls swapping tips for writing essays and quizzing each other. After the first 75-minute session there were snacks and juice boxes available for students, and the 15 minute break passed quickly. After the second 75-minute session students left their testing rooms proud of themselves, and relieved that they made it through the test. Laura Brown said, “Our teachers prepared me well, and I knew I could tackle this test. It was a piece of cake.”
On April 1, Ms. Bauer brought her Grade 9 and 10 English classes to the Sudbury Theatre Centre’s Young Company performance of #TheWaterTower. This show depicts one of the most pressing issues facing teenagers today: cyberbullying. #TheWaterTower tells the story of four teenagers who must swim through dangerous digital waters as they learn how to stand up for themselves and one another. Eden Bowers says, “The show was really informative about the dangers of social media. The actors did a great job of showing the story through their characters.” The show combined live acting, recorded video, and special effects. After the show, the actors and director answered questions about the show, the performance, and their personal experiences.
