M’CHIGEENG—A M’Chigeeng man has been charged in relation to the death of a M’Chigeeng woman this past summer.
On July 3, United Chiefs and Council of Manitoulin (UCCM) Anishnaabe Police responded to a call from the Mindemoya branch of the Manitoulin Health Centre. A 22-year-old woman, Trista Panamick, was pronounced dead as a result of a likely methadone overdose.
As a result of their investigation, UCCM officers arrested 24-year-old Luke Pierre Anwhatin on charges of breach of probation, breach of undertaking, trafficking in a schedule I substance (methadone) and manslaughter. The arrest took place November 1.
The accused was already on bail stemming from an arrest in a recent undercover drug project.
None of the charges have been proven in a court of law.
The UCCM Police Force is continuing the investigation into Ms. Panamick’s death and asks anyone with information to come forward. They can do so by contacting the UCCM at 705-377-7135 or the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
