Long-time subscriber challenged by crossword puzzle

First letter of complaint in 45 years

To the Expositor:

My spouse and I have been subscribers to The Manitoulin Expositor for over 45 years and this is possibly the first time I have ever written a letter of complaint. Unlike Manitoulin Island, we, at Judy’s cottage in Quebec, have had significant rainfalls in each month since our arrival, which means our entertainments are often restricted to the porch. We have taken up cooperatively doing crossword puzzles  but encountered several problems from the puzzle found in one of your January 2000 issues that we had here.

Firstly, it was too difficult and we made almost no progress finding a solution despite over 35 years of formal education and soon to be 45 years of married life. Maybe people were smarter in 2000.

To add insult to injury, the headline for the puzzle was ‘Fun To Do.’ Headlines should help and not mislead. Lucky for me the sun is coming out and I can put the puzzle down for a while.

We continue to look forward to getting the paper edition of the newspaper in the forwarded mail and soon, the digital edition for more timely news.
