LITTLE CURRENT—Little Current United Church will be hosting an indoor labyrinth from Wednesday, April 25 to Sunday, April 29. The labyrinth is on loan to the church from Sudbury Presbytery and St. Peter’s United Church in Sudbury through their ‘I Have a Dream Fund.’
This labyrinth is a modified example of the Chartres Labyrinth, located in the floor of the cathedral in Chartres, near Paris, France.
Gailand MacQueen, a minister in Sudbury Presbytery and author of ‘The Spirituality of Mazes and Labyrinths,’ states in his book that labyrinths have been used as ritual objects “to express spiritual values for at least 3,500 years, in countries all over the world.”
He further observes that, “The first few times you walk the labyrinth you may have a mild sense of confusion—all the twists and turns can deceive you into thinking that the labyrinth is a confusing path you might get lost in. Very quickly, however, you will discover that you can’t get lost, as long as you stay on the path and keep walking. The labyrinth is really one of the simplest objects there can be—a simple, single path.”
No matter how you choose to approach or to interpret your time with this labyrinth the community is invited to come and experience the labyrinth during its stay at Little Current United Church.
Please consult the April 25 Coming Events classifieds in The Manitoulin Expositor for a labyrinth schedule of times and activities.
