Little Current Swing Bridge experiences another failure

LITTLE CURRENT—A number of travellers hoping for a swift passage over the North Channel to and from Manitoulin Island on June 23 found themselves waiting on the wings a little longer than expected as switch failure prevented the bridge from closing.

“Regarding Little Current Swing Bridge, on June 23 there was an electrical switch issue on the bridge,” said Lara Cantin, regional issues and media advisor for the Ministry of Transportation. “The bridge operator had to close the bridge manually, causing a short delay to traffic. The switch was replaced that night and returned to a normal swing schedule. We have had other issues similar to this in the past that have caused minor delays.”

Ms. Cantin noted that the bridge is now functioning normally and is expected to operate normally going forward.
