Little Current resident in final week of fundraising for friend battling cancer

LITTLE CURRENT—Little Current’s Bill Slaght is the latest Islander to be amazed as to how generous people are when someone is in need on the Island.

“Everything is going great, and everyone has been so generous,” stated Mr. Slaght. “I have, as of Wednesday (last week), 250 kilometres left to achieve my goal of biking 1,000 kilometres in August. We are creeping up to $10,000 in funds raised, and that was even before the (Gore Bay Western Manitoulin) Rotary Club made a donation of $500 at their Bay-to-Bay Ride. And this amount does not include the $2,800 that was raised by Andrew Orr and Orr’s Valu-Mart (in Little Current) through a fundraising barbecue August 18.”

As was reported earlier this month, Mr. Slaght has set a goal of bicycling 1,000 kilometres through the month of August and has challenged “everyone to donate one, five or 10 cents,” for every kilometre he bikes this month. He has undertaken this fundraising bike ride to help a good friend who is going through health difficulties.”

His friend Sean Coleman is going through a battle with cancer for the second time. Mr. Coleman and his wife Danielle have two children.

Mr. Slaght pointed out, “any donations we receive will be greatly appreciated.” EMT donations can be made to km4coleman@gmail.com.
