Little Current Public Library News Nov 13

The Northeast Town Public Library in Little Current is one of the busiest places in the community these days. November began with the latest in the Art for Seniors series—printmaking classes with Sophie Edwards on Monday mornings. The games on Friday afternoons is popular again this fall with Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit and cribbage being enjoyed by a lively group.

A bridge foursome has begun meeting to better learn the game. “We’ve all been playing about a year,” says participant Joanne Pilon. “Newcomers are welcome. We now meet at the library Wednesdays from 1 to 4 pm.” A great way to keep the brain cells growing, and socialize a bit too. Meanwhile on Thursdays, Linda Richer and Karen Doughty have rounded up a learn-to-knit group. They are beginning with a simple cowl scarf project. “Something anybody can do,” says Linda.

And speaking of art! Mark Seabrook’s brilliant paintings come down on Novmeber 15 to make way for the Christmas Art Show and Sale. This year, as a fundraiser the exhibit will feature many well-known local artists. Each will show a work priced at $100, with 50 percent of the sale price going to help the library continue the Art for Seniors project. Artists are reminded to bring their works in on November 14 or 15. The Open House for the show is Saturday afternoon, December 7 from 2 to 4 pm. Watch this paper for more details.

All this and plenty of books too. Staff have just put out a number of new releases, for those waiting for the latest titles. Judy Kift also reports that 85 patrons are now using Overdrive, the program for borrowing books online for their e-readers, a fast growing way to enjoy favourite authors.

Library Outreach is very active as we move into the cooler months. Wintertime Book Buddies, a service that provides books and a friendly visit to older folks, is about to begin again. Facilitator Wendy Gauthier says they have enough volunteers, but need names of a few more people who may like to have book visits this winter. Call the library at 705-368-2444.

Library hours are: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 8 pm; Wednesdays from 10 am to 6 pm; Fridays from noon to 5 pm; and Saturdays 10 am to 3 pm. Come and browse, have a coffee, sit and read, meet new friends and old at 50 Meredith St. in Little Current. It’s all happening there.
