(LITTLE CURRENT, ON) – On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at approximately 12:06 p.m., a concerned member of the public called 9-1-1 to report a suspected impaired driver travelling on Highway 540 in the Township of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands (N.E.M.I), Ontario.
A member of the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed the vehicle being operated in an erratic manner. A traffic stop was initiated on Highway 540 near Honora Bay Road in the Township of N.E.M.I. After speaking with the driver, the officer determined that he had been consuming alcohol.
As a result of the investigation a Little Current man has been charged with:
- Driving While Ability Impaired – Alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
- Driving a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 mg of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Gore Bay, Ontario on December 12, 2018.
