Little Current Library News

by Marian Barnett

The library is boasting a brand new fax/photocopy machine for use by the public. Printing, computer use, laminating, and wi-fi are other services offered.

Regular programs have started up again after the Christmas break. Seniors, especially, are enjoying scrabble, bridge, knitting and art activities. All are welcome to join in, meet new or old friends, and keep active during the winter.

Several new large print books have been added to the collection, thanks to the recent Lions Club donation to Library Outreach. Popular titles include ‘The Girl on the Train’ by Paula Hawkins, ‘The House Without Windows,’ Nadia Hashemite; ‘Downfall,’ J.A. Janice; and ‘Killer Look,’ Linda Fairstein. Meanwhile, Karen Gallo reports that staff are preparing orders for a number of new regular print books as well. Also, she reminds older teenage patrons and young adult readers about the library’s extensive collection of graphic novels.

Donations of current books in very good condition are much appreciated. A large gift of Harlequin paperbacks was received recently.

As for activities, there will be two art classes held this month. Watercolour with Pauline Tofflemire is on January 18. Acrylic painting with Dorothy Atchison is on the 28th. There is a fee for these classes. A solo art exhibit featuring works by Dorothy Atchison will be on display from January 18 to February 14.

The hiring process for the head librarian position is continuing into the new year. Board chair Ned Martin explains that applications for the position are being received until January 18.

Library board, staff, volunteers, and all at 50 Meredith Street West hope that visits to the library will be part of your Happy New Year. In fact, if your resolution is to get a library card, it will be an easy one to keep.
