LITTLE CURRENT—Representatives from nine Royal Canadian Legion branches across District H gathered at Little Current Branch 177 on October 19 to map out the future of track and field and other events in the region where they heard some great news—the 2026-2027 Legion Provincial Track and Field meet will take place at Laurentian University.
“This is great news,” said Legion District H First Deputy and spokesperson Flora Wilson-Chartrand. She notes that the provincial meet regularly attracts more than 400 athletes. “It’s not just our district,” she said. District H stretches from Parry Sound to White River and Manitoulin.
The Legion track and field meet is an important stepping stone to the Olympics for many hopeful young athletes. This is especially true for those youth who are being home schooled and cannot follow the usual school meet route to qualify for upper tier events.
“There were 15 of our athletes who competed in the recent Summer Olympics,” said Ms. Wilson-Chartrand.
The provincial meet will see participants from 35 Legions take part and District H will play host.
“I want to give a huge shout out to Little Current Royal Canadian Legion Branch 177,” said Ms. Wilson-Chartrand. “They did an excellent job hosting the district meeting. The food and the welcome, everything, was just wonderful. You could not have asked for better.”
